CFM vs Lift in Carpet Extractors

CFM – Cubic Feet per Minute
This is a measure of the movement of air (and extracted solution, when working) through the vacuum hose.

Lift
The engine or force that is propelling the air and solution mixture down the hose. Lift is necessary to maintain the CFM. It’s measured in “Inches of Lift”, using a mercury scale, (sort of like a mercury thermometer) in a laboratory. Each truck mounted machine has a gauge that shows the equivalent of this scale.
