My definition: To have a business that I enjoy that gives me enough money to live my life in a way that makes me and my family happy.
In the Cleaning and Restoration business, what’s the measure of success? Many use someone else’s yardstick for their business and………. it will never make THEM happy.
I’ve met one truck operators who have a perfectly set up truck. They have a good helper who is well paid. They charge high prices, don’t work past 4 pm and never work on Saturday. They have a following of customers who will NEVER call anyone but them. ALL their work is done by referral. They shut down a few weeks every year for vacation. They pocket a “six figure” income. They love doing the technical work. Asking them to manage another truck or two with a handful of people would be, in their opinion, “a living hell”.
They have time and money to do other things besides work……if they want to.
This person is a huge success, in my opinion!
I’ve met multiple truck operators with a well set up operation. They want to manage others. They understand that management is different than being a technician. They learn the skills needed. They understand promotion and advertising. They take several weeks of vacation every year. They pocket a “six figure” income. They love running a business.
Asking them to go out on a truck every day would be, in their opinion, “a living hell”.
They have time and money to do other things besides work……if they want to.
This person is a huge success, in my opinion!
These are two extremes. You might be somewhere in the middle. If you are making money, living the life you want and are happy, I call you successful!
Do what fits. Do what works for you. Do what makes you happy.
I call that success.
